Welcome Back, Berserk
We get to see this chad again
By now, most people know that Berserk is being continued by Kouji Mori—Miura’s best friend—and the Studio Gaga team, with Mori taking on a supervisory role. On the 24th June, that’s four days’ time. I’m excited and nervous.
I wrote a while ago about the things I would miss the most about Miura’s writing. The little sparks of genius that made Berserk, Berserk. It is almost impossible to replicate the magic, style, and authorial voice of another writer. Writing is so personal to us. Scenes and characters develop in our own minds first, take form, and become alive at our own will. I don’t envy the team for what they are about to do. It’s a lot to comprehend.
I’m anxious and nervous and excited all at the same time. To be honest, I was on the verge of tears when the announcement was made on the official twitter account. It sounded so personal, and it was clear that everyone at Hakusensha was overwhelmed by just how much people around the world loved Kentaro Miura.
I’m excited to the see a continuation of that final, devastating page of chapter 364. I can’t wait to see Guts and Casca reconcile properly. To see both of them reveal their full pasts to the team. To see a heart-to-heart with Guts and Isidro and the lessons he learned as the 100-man slayer. To see Farnese realise her full potential. For the great cosmic rivalry between Void and Skull Knight to reach its conclusion. For a solution about the Moonlight Boy to be found. And finally, the great resolution between Guts, Casca, and Griffith. And there are so many other plot points to be revealed.
The nerve of this guy and his crying eyeballs
For me, Berserk officially ended at chapter 364. This will be something new. Something a little different. A fair attempt to fill someone else’s shoes. But it is something for which I am grateful. And I’m so happy that Miura was surrounded with so many loving people, with a dedicated and loyal friend like Mori and a supportive studio of assistants, that they would take this burden on just to see the end of their friend’s dream.
I wish them the best with all my heart.
