New Year, New Stuff!

Baby boy is due on the 9th of this month, so I’m trying to wrap up loads of things this week before I’m incapacitated. Black Girl Writers got a cute makeover during the Christmas holidays, and two more mentors have joined, which is fantastic!

Also absolutely thrilled that one of the mentees not only found her agent through us, but ended 2020 with a 2-book deal from Little, Brown! Another mentee has signed with a digital-first HarperCollins imprint. Things are definitely looking up for the organisation. I’ve had a couple talks with well known writers and founders of online magazines and The Good Literary Agency to sort out some plans for this year, so I’m looking forward to getting stuck in to it. I just hope I’ll be able to manage!

In terms of WriteNow, things have slowed down as I get sorted for baby, but my first meeting with my editor was really nice. He said such lovely things about Twenty-Nineteen and is really excited to work with me this year to get it publication-ready.

What I need now is to keep sending my work off to agents. Penguin advises us to get agents to ensure we get a good deal, and even though our mentors assist in this, I’m still keen to search for some on my own. It still doesn’t feel real that this has happened. We went from The A-Project which I calmly shelved, to The Domino Effect, and now that haphazard book has been repackaged into this book that got accepted by Penguin. I hope The World Began in Twenty-Nineteen can get published in the next couple years. I can’t wait to see it on the shelves!
