New Writing Goals

So I gave birth two weeks ago. It’s been two weeks of living in three-hour intervals as dictated by the baby’s feeding and changing demands, and as such, time means nothing and I can’t believe it’s only been two weeks. It feels like a month, and it feels like I’ve always had him, and that this has been my life for a long time. It’s strange how quickly humans can adapt to new situations.

The labour took 4 days all together, and it wasn’t the experience I had been hoping for, but thankfully nothing turned into an emergency situation, and we both emerged from the hospital alive and happy. Since then I’ve been back on the BGW grind, organising two great events for which tickets are still available.

But this also means I’m fighting the anxiety of not being able to write when I want to. He’s sleeping right next to me, so I’ve been able to steal some time back, but this year has been pretty sporadic for the site, as well as my novel, and the other novel I’ve been working on in the meantime. I would love to have both finished and polished off this year, and so I need to set some reasonable goals for myself, whilst still being charitable for the new changes in my life.

If I can get through a certain amount of words, and a certain amount of changes per month (rather than daily like I’m used to), then I’ll be satisfied!

For now, we’ll aim for 5000-10, 000 words per month. I think I can do that.
